1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Excitonic.com and its associated properties, including the Excitonic Wave newsletter published at wave.excitonic.com (collectively, "Excitonic," "we," "us," or "our"), collect, use, disclose, and protect information about you when you:

  • Visit excitonic.com or wave.excitonic.com
  • Subscribe to or read the Excitonic Wave newsletter
  • Contact us by email or any other means
  • Interact with advertisements displayed on our properties

By using our site or subscribing to our newsletter, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our properties or subscribe to our newsletter.

Plain-English Summary: We run a website and newsletter about excitonics and photonics. We collect your email if you subscribe. We show ads via Google AdSense. We use Beehiiv to send our newsletter. We do not sell your data. You can opt out at any time.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in three ways:

A. Information You Provide Directly

  • Email address — when you subscribe to Excitonic Wave via our website or Beehiiv subscribe page
  • Name — if you choose to provide it when subscribing or contacting us
  • Communications — any information you include when emailing us at wave.excitonic.com/contact

B. Automatically Collected Information

  • Usage data — pages visited, time on page, referring URLs, scroll depth
  • Device & browser data — browser type, operating system, screen resolution, device type
  • IP address — automatically logged by our hosting provider and analytics tools
  • Cookie data — see Section 4 for full details
  • Newsletter engagement data — email opens, link clicks, unsubscribes, processed by Beehiiv

C. Information From Third Parties

  • Aggregated analytics data from Google Analytics
  • Advertising interaction data from Google AdSense and the DoubleClick network
  • Subscriber profile data maintained by Beehiiv on our behalf

3. Newsletter & Beehiiv

Excitonic Wave is our weekly newsletter covering excitonics, photonics, and related investment intelligence. It is published and distributed using Beehiiv, Inc., a third-party newsletter platform.

We use Beehiiv (beehiiv.com) to manage Excitonic Wave, including subscriber collection, email delivery, engagement tracking, and monetization features. When you subscribe, your email address and engagement data are processed by Beehiiv on our behalf under a Data Processing Agreement.

Beehiiv's own privacy policy — which governs how Beehiiv Inc. handles platform data — is available at beehiiv.com/privacy.

What Beehiiv collects on our behalf:

  • Your email address and subscription status
  • Email open events and link click events
  • Device and browser data used to render emails correctly
  • Subscriber profile data including engagement history
  • Referral source (how you found the newsletter)

Beehiiv's cross-publication tracking: By using Beehiiv, you should be aware that Beehiiv may create and maintain subscriber profiles across multiple publications on its platform, and may track behavioral signals across publications. This is disclosed in Beehiiv's Terms of Use. You can opt out of Beehiiv's platform-level data practices by emailing privacy@beehiiv.com.

Unsubscribing: Every issue of Excitonic Wave contains an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Clicking it immediately removes you from our mailing list. You may also email us at wave.excitonic.com/contact to request removal. We honor all unsubscribe requests within 10 business days as required by the CAN-SPAM Act.

Consent at signup: When you subscribe through our Beehiiv-powered subscribe page, you will be presented with a checkbox requiring you to agree to this Privacy Policy before subscribing. This consent is recorded by Beehiiv with a timestamp and is our lawful basis for sending you email under GDPR.

4. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We use cookies — small data files stored on your device — and similar tracking technologies on excitonic.com and wave.excitonic.com. These fall into four categories:

  • Essential cookies — required for the site to function. Examples: remembering your last-viewed tab, language preferences. These cannot be disabled without breaking site functionality.
  • Analytics cookies — used to understand how visitors interact with our site. We use Google Analytics for this purpose. Data is aggregated and anonymized.
  • Advertising cookies — placed by Google AdSense and the DoubleClick network to serve relevant advertisements. These cookies may track your activity across other websites to personalize ads.
  • Third-party cookies — placed by embedded services such as TradingView (market data widgets) and Google Fonts. These providers may set their own cookies governed by their own policies.

Managing cookies: You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or alert you when a cookie is being sent. However, disabling cookies may affect site functionality. You may also use browser extensions such as uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger to manage third-party tracking.

Do Not Track: Some browsers transmit "Do Not Track" signals. We do not currently respond to Do Not Track signals, as no uniform standard exists. We will update this policy if that changes.

5. Google AdSense & Third-Party Advertising

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on excitonic.com and wave.excitonic.com. Google AdSense uses cookies — including the DoubleClick cookie — to serve ads based on your prior visits to our site and other sites across the internet.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You may also opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info or optout.networkadvertising.org.

Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to our website or other websites. These vendors may also use tracking technologies to measure advertisement effectiveness and personalize ad content. We have no access to or control over cookies used by third-party advertisers.

Google's advertising and privacy practices are governed by the Google Privacy & Terms page. We encourage you to review it.

Financial content disclaimer: Advertisements appearing on Excitonic.com or in Excitonic Wave may be from financial services companies including brokerages, investment platforms, and financial data providers. The appearance of such advertisements does not constitute an endorsement by Excitonic.com. Advertisers pay for placement independently of our editorial content.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate our website and newsletter. Each is governed by its own privacy policy, which we encourage you to review:

  • Google Analytics — website analytics. policies.google.com/privacy
  • Google Fonts — typography. Requests may be logged by Google servers. Fonts Privacy FAQ

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party services. Links to their policies are provided for your convenience and reference only.

8. Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information.

  • Service providers: We share data with Beehiiv, Google, and other providers listed in Section 6 solely to operate our site and newsletter. These providers are contractually bound to use your data only as directed by us.
  • Legal compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or the safety of others.
  • Business transfers: If Excitonic.com is acquired, merged, or its assets transferred, subscriber data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify subscribers via email and a notice on this page before any such transfer occurs.
  • Aggregated data: We may share anonymized, aggregated data (such as total subscriber counts or general audience demographics) with advertisers or partners. This data cannot be used to identify you.

9. Data Retention & Security

Retention: We retain your email address and subscription data for as long as you remain subscribed to Excitonic Wave. Upon unsubscribe, your data is removed from our active mailing list within 10 business days. Beehiiv may retain anonymized engagement history per their own retention policies. Email correspondence is retained for up to 3 years unless you request earlier deletion.

Security: We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS) on all our properties. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security and accept no liability for unauthorized access beyond what is required by applicable law.

Data breach: In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify affected subscribers within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, as required by GDPR, and within the timeframes required by applicable state laws.
