Four desks, plus Band Edge
Excitonic is a professional research and news publication covering excitonic science — the physics of bound electron–hole pairs and their hybrid light–matter forms — and the computing, sensing, and photonic machines they make possible.
We organize coverage around four desks, because the field only makes sense as a whole, from quasiparticle to product:
- Excitonic Research — the quasiparticles themselves: excitons, trions, biexcitons, polaritons, and the materials and spectroscopy that reveal them.
- AI & Superintelligence — excitonic computing for AI, including polariton and photonic accelerators, all-optical switching, and neuromorphic approaches, plus AI used to discover excitonic physics.
- Quantum Excitonic Computing — excitons in quantum information: single-photon sources, polariton qubits and simulators, coherence, and room-temperature quantum platforms.
- Devices & Photonics — where the physics becomes products: lasers, LEDs, photodetectors, modulators, optical interconnects, and sensors, plus the funding and fabs behind them.
Band Edge is overflow, not a desk: occasional coverage of the frontiers beyond the four beats — Solar & Energy, Sensing & Bio, special reports, and emerging topics — with no daily quota.
How we work
Our editorial approach is simple: lead with the physics, then explain what it makes possible — so readers finish each piece with a deep, clear understanding of how things actually work.
Our stories are produced with the assistance of artificial intelligence: AI helps research, draft, and edit each article, under editorial direction and review before publication. Our desk authors direct coverage for their desks and stand behind the analysis. Author names will be announced with the first edition; no bylines are published before then.
Our coverage is journalism and analysis. It is not investment advice; see our Terms of Use for the full disclaimer.
The Wave
The Wave is our investing-focused newsletter. It leads with Markets & Capital and recuts all four desks — plus Band Edge — through an investor lens, while still referring back to the underlying technology. The Wave is a separate service on its own subdomain; this site only links out to it.
